The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan says the Netherlands has contributed $18.29 million to support people in need, saying sustained donor support helps ensure access to lifesaving services.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 3 September, OCHA said the Dutch government had provided the funding to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund. It did not provide further details on how the money would be used.
The Netherlands also contributed more than $16 million to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund on 22 September 2024. At the time, OCHA said the Netherlands was the fund’s third-largest donor.
The latest contribution comes as the United Nations says 21.9 million people in Afghanistan currently require humanitarian assistance.
On 1 July, the Norwegian Refugee Council said humanitarian funding for Afghanistan had fallen to its lowest level, adding that only one-sixth of the total funding required for humanitarian operations in the country had been secured.
