Heavy rainfall and devastating floods in Badakhshan have caused extensive damage to residents of the Baharak and Jurm districts.
Residents say that Friday evening’s floods destroyed several residential homes and hundreds of acres of farmland and orchards.
Sayed Ahmad Saeedi, the mayor of Jurm district, said: “Yesterday, around 5:30 in the morning, the flood occurred and caused severe damage to the people destroying their homes, lands, and gardens.”
Several flood victims have called on the caretaker government and relief organizations for urgent assistance.
Meanwhile, officials from Badakhshan’s Natural Disaster Management Authority have announced that assessments have begun and aid responses are being organized.
The floods also damaged dozens of vehicles along the Fayzabad–Baharak highway.
