Local officials in Nimroz Province said that up to three thousand Afghan migrants cross the Silk Bridge daily from Iran into Afghanistan.

According to them, most of these migrants are forced to return due to economic challenges and pressures from the Iranian government.

Abdullah Riaz, head of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs in Nimroz, said: “Our compatriots who are being deported or returning from Iran number between 2,500 to 3,000 individuals daily. The return of families has also increased in 1404 (solar year); previously, 100 to 110 families returned daily, but now 230 to 250 families return each day.”

Some of the returnees have complained about their wages being withheld by employers and extortion by Iranian security forces.

Local officials in Nimroz say that returning families are being assisted by humanitarian organizations and the government.

Torjan Ahmadi, the Taliban deputy governor of Nimroz, stated: “It is the Islamic Emirate’s policy to create employment opportunities for every Afghan returning from any country, and it is determined to provide job opportunities for all returnees in various sectors.”

According to local officials, in recent months, following the deadlines set for Afghan migrants to leave Iran, the deportation and return rate has doubled.

Returnees remain concerned about economic challenges and unemployment within Afghanistan.
